7 Neutral Bay brunches worth getting up for
Whether you like your eggs scrambled or sunny side up, with a side of bacon or drizzled with a decadent hollandaise sauce, you’re sure to find a cafe or restaurant in Neutral Bay to serve you up a glorious breakfast or brunch, just the way you like it.
We’ve listed some of our favourites below, with a top pick from the menu too, just in case you’re having a hard time deciding what to order!
Breakfast with a view
Perched right on the harbour’s edge, Thelma & Louise is a gorgeous spot for brekkie or brunch. With all the favourites on the menu to choose from you’re spoilt for choice here, but the lamb mince, poached eggs and risotto are crowd favourites, and the coffee also gets two big thumbs up. Of course you just can’t go past that view, and whether you sit inside or out, it really is one of Neutral Bay’s most quaint spots to dine.
Clean, modern interiors (and amazing food)
Voted in Goodfood’s list of Sydney’s top 50 cafes, At Neutral is naturally a favourite with locals and visitors alike. And with one look at the menu, it’s not hard to see why. The truffled scrambled eggs are up there with some of the best, as well as the house-cured salmon on toast – and don’t forget the Calibrate coffee on offer. Its fresh, modern interior provides a relaxing atmosphere where you can easily spend an hour or two catching up with friends.
Hidden gem
5 Loaves 2 Fish is a little hard to find, which makes it a bit of a local treasure in Neutral Bay. With signage that simply says ‘coffee’ at 17 Grosvenor Lane, what’s actually hidden inside is an incredible menu with something for everyone, even the kids (with highchairs available). The chilli crab scrambled eggs are like nothing you’ve had before, even better washed down with a delicious milkshake, sumptuous smoothie or refreshing cold pressed juice. The staff are super friendly, the interior is relaxing yet stylish, and if you fancy a bit of people watching there is outdoor seating.
Established local favourite
Chaos Cafe is in the heart of Neutral Bay, and has been for over 20 years, making it a top spot for locals looking for their weekend caffeine fix – their coffee is incredible. It also helps that the food is delicious (try the corn fritters and smashed avo on sourdough) and it’s set in a modern space with a friendly, funky vibe. You can sit indoors or out, and the cafe’s found in quiet lane off Grosvenor Lane.
Most innovative menu
If you’re an early bird, you could very well ‘catch the worm’ by getting the best seat in the house at Against the Grind. With a super modern and fresh vibe, the food is full of all the typical breakfast and brunch favourites as well as a few extra specials, like the Brekky Fried rice (Chinese style fried rice, Chinese cured sausage, peas, avo, eggs sunny side up and a soy glaze) and a bacon and egg roll with Swiss raclette cheese.
Brunch at any time of day
The incredible Maisys is an eatery that is open 24/7. You could come for breakfast and stay all day to enjoy dinner and a midnight snack too! But if you’re just after something to start your day, try the classic smashed avo and crumbled feta on toasted sourdough – you won’t be disappointed. The fig and raisin toast is always a winner too. It has a modern, American-diner feel, and if you want hot chips for breakfast it won’t be frowned upon here.
One for the gym junkies
If you love watching the world go by, then grab yourself a window seat at Grind & Dose. Located on the bustling Military Road, it provides the perfect place to enjoy a slow breakfast or brunch. If you’re bringing your appetite, then the BEART (bacon, egg, avocado, rocket and tomato on toasted Turkish bread) might just be what the doctor ordered, and they offer keto-friendly and low-carb options, too. The space is small and sweet, but that just adds to the comfortable and friendly atmosphere. If it’s good food and coffee you’re looking for, then this is the place for you.
