8 fabulous Sunday lunches in Neutral Bay
There’s nothing quite like indulging in a long lunch on a Sunday in winter. From one of the best pub roasts in Sydney, to sharing platters, fine dining and laid-back restaurant chic, it’s all on the menu here. So check out our round-up of the best restaurants and cafes in Neutral Bay to enjoy this weekend.
Pub food at its finest
The Oaks is the ultimate destination for all things food and drinks. The Bar and Grill is all about traditional pub-style mains (like the classic beef pot pie and mushy peas), but they also serve incredible gourmet pizzas and other delectable dishes.
Relaxed southern Californian vibe
Clear your calendar for Sunday afternoon, because SoCal is long lunching at its finest. With a cool, surfy vibe the theme on offer here, you’ll be every bit sure that you’re somewhere in Southern California. All about fresh, modern, ‘share-style’ street food, SoCal is right into their Latin American spices, as well as ‘low and slow’ smoked meats and house-made sauces.
Fine seasonal dining
This one is for the late risers, who missed lunch and are ready for an early dinner. II Bridges is open from 5:30pm on a Sunday, and is a great way to finish the weekend off on a high. Their menu is short and sweet, but done very well. From arancini to scallops, ravioli, duck and Tasmanian trout, you’ll have no trouble treating yourself here.
Brunch time
Coffee lovers, Against the Grind is for you. You can choose from the extensive all day breakfast menu, or opt for something from the lunch menu from midday – but you’ll definitely have to come here a few times to make the most of their inhouse specials. The paninis are next level good, but you might also be swayed by the ATG bacon and egg roll or toasties. And of course you’ll need to pair any food with a beverage from the coffee bar.
Carnivores step this way
The name, Ribs and Burgers, says it all really. Open from 11am on Sundays, you won’t be leaving here with an empty stomach. Get stuck into their out-of-this world ribs (lamb, pork or beef), or choose from 14 burgers, including vegetarian options. They also have salad wraps and other sides if you’re looking for a lighter choice. Don’t forget to grab one of their signature milkshakes either – it will set you up for a truly fantastic Sunday arvo nap.
Italian classics
Open from 11:30am on Sundays, you’ll find the Italian Street Kitchen tucked away behind Military Road, on Grosvenor Lane. This place really is a delight for the senses – from the smell and taste of its freshly prepared pizza dough and pasta, to its Italy-inspired ambience, everything here is wonderfully authentic, thanks to recipes that have been passed down through the generations. They want you to not only come and eat, but to stay awhile, offering it as a place to chat, catch up and unwind.
Local favourite
Another one for the coffee aficionados, Chaos Cafe has something for everyone on the menu, from poke bowls to burgers, wraps, salads and of course, coffee. Located in the heart of Neutral Bay for over 20 years, Chaos is a favourite choice for locals and visitors alike, who simply want to sit back, relax and enjoy a tasty meal.
Incredible food with a view
Okay, so this one is not quite in Neutral Bay, but we couldn’t miss an opportunity to showcase The Fernery in neighbouring Mosman. It’s rooftop location affords you some incredible views, and if you’re impressed with that, wait till you try the food. Designed to share, the menu caters to locally sourced produce and the onsite kitchen garden allows the chefs to experiment with flavours, as well as adding seasonal touches to dishes.
