Beautiful Sydney produce to enjoy right now
Buying local fresh produce not only saves us money and supports local businesses but also reduces our carbon footprint because the produce that we buy is in season and usually hasn’t had to travel that far. Plus, it’s fresh and delicious.
What’s in season right now in Sydney
December is a great month for fresh local produce around Sydney. It’s the time of the year when we can enjoy stone fruit such as apricots, peaches, nectarines, cherries, lychees, and, of course, scrumptious mangoes.
There are also trays and trays of fresh berries such as blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries lining the shelves of produce stores and supermarkets. And don’t forget tropical fruits such as pawpaws and pineapples.
There’s also a range of delicious summer vegetables to lighten up your meals with fresh salads such as tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicum, spinach, radishes and crisp beans. Sweetcorn is also a favourite this time of the year as well as eggplants and zucchini.
Where to buy fresh, local produce
While you can stock up on all this lovely fresh goodness from your local supermarket, think about shopping at local farmer’s markets in Sydney and other produce stores for the best bargains and freshest produce.
A great place to buy fruit and vegetables straight from the growers is the Northside Produce Market which is held at the Ted Mack Civic Park on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. The next one will be on the 17th of December, just in time for Christmas shopping.
Not only will you find all your fresh produce here, but you will also be able to buy a variety of bread, fresh and smoked seafood, hand-crafted smallgoods, and delectable pastries as well as Sydney’s best coffee.
Another excellent Sydney fresh produce market is Harris Farm Markets located in the Stockland Shopping Centre in Cammeray. The store is open every day from 7 am to 8 pm and has excellent weekly specials that will help with your budget.
As well as fresh fruit and vegetables, the store also has a range of meat, cheese, nuts, and other dry goods. And if you’re too busy to shop in person, you might like to check out their value boxes and have one delivered right to your door.
Another business delivering fresh yummy produce is Fruitezy which won the ‘Greengrocer of the Year’ award in 2022. You can shop online for individual products or order one of their fruit and veggie boxes. They also offer meat, seafood, fresh flowers and other home essentials.
