Winter arts and culture in Neutral Bay
The fun continues as Australia swings back to life and live events become part of our world again. The good news is you don’t have to travel too far from the area to enjoy performances, art and festivals. Here’s a roundup of some of the places to check out and events happening in and around Neutral Bay over the next few months. Many of these are indoors; so you won’t have to worry about bad weather.
Films, talks and more
The Hayden Orpheum is known for presenting diverse content and 2022 is no exception. With the temperature dropping, the Orpheum is one of the best venues for indoor entertainment north of the Harbour Bridge
In June, The Orpheum is hosting An Evening With Norman Swan. The veteran broadcaster will be chatting about his new book and updating the audience with intriguing scientific medical advice. June will see screenings of the infamous film, The Room, for the ninth year running. If you have never seen this movie, it has become a cult classic for being regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. It’s so bad, it’s almost good.
For a change of pace, the Orpheum is also hosting the Elton Joel Show in August, a live tribute to the music of Elton John and Billy Joel.
Jurassic World – Domination, Baz Lurhman’s Elvis and the movie Lightyear are all premiering in June. For music lovers, the Orpheum is screening MET opera Don Carlos, and George Michael – Freedom Uncut in June.
You can also plan a fun outing with the kids in June and July, when the Orpheum will host sing-a-long screenings of Frozen and Moana.
Festival time
The annual 69th Sydney Film Festival is on from 8-19 June. The festival boasts an array of movies hosted at cinemas spread across the city including, of course, the Orpheum. Choose from a lineup of short films, animations, documentaries, and the best of Australian and international cinema.
Trivia nights and more
The Oaks Hotel is an iconic spot at any time but free trivia nights every Tuesday make for perfect winter entertainment. Trivia isn’t the only fun to be had at the Oaks either. Wednesday is Playstation night and every Friday and Saturday you can enjoy acoustic sessions with bands from near and far. Make sure to check out the what’s on page to see all the entertainment they have in store in June, July and August.
Grab a takeaway
There’s nothing better on a cold winter night than bringing home some steaming hot eats. Neutral Bay has some of the best Japanese food around and hot noodles make the perfect winter treat. Ramen Toriichi Neutral Bay is offering two local pick up sets this winter sure to tickle your taste buds and warm your soul.

Right in the centre of Neutral Bay, you can enjoy fine local art Traffic Jam Galleries, which always has fresh exhibitions on rotation. Check their calendar to see what is coming in June and July.

This festival is free for all ages and features talented Aussie artists like Beddy Rays, Redhook, and The Rions.
